DeskMate is an AI-powered tool built for teachers, tutors, and homeschool families. We take privacy seriously — especially when it comes to children. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and your rights.

What We Collect

Account information: When you create an account we collect your name and email address through Clerk, our authentication provider.

Usage data: We collect basic usage information such as which features you use and how often, to improve the product.

What you type into DeskMate: When you generate a progress report, lesson plan, or curriculum, the text you enter is sent to Anthropic's Claude AI to generate a response. We do not permanently store the content of your prompts or generated outputs on our servers.

What we do NOT collect:

•Full student names, last names, or student IDs

•Student academic records

•Any information entered by students (DeskMate is not used by students directly)

•Payment card details (handled by Stripe)

Student Privacy

DeskMate is designed to protect student privacy. Here's how:

•DeskMate is a tool used BY teachers, tutors, and parents — not BY students directly

•We ask users to enter only first names or nicknames when generating materials

•We do not build profiles on individual students

•We do not sell or share any student-related information with third parties for advertising

•We do not use student data to target advertising

FERPA: DeskMate is not a school record system and does not store education records as defined by FERPA. Teachers and tutors are responsible for ensuring they follow their school or district's policies when using DeskMate.

COPPA: DeskMate is not directed at children under 13. Users must be 18 or older to create an account. Children do not interact with DeskMate directly.

SOPIPA: We do not use any information entered into DeskMate for advertising purposes, and we do not sell user data.

How We Use Your Data

•To provide and improve DeskMate

•To send product updates and important account information (you can opt out)

•To process payments via Stripe

•To authenticate your account via Clerk

We never sell your data. We never use your data to advertise to you or your students.

Third-Party Services

Anthropic Claude: AI generation. Text you enter is processed by Anthropic per their privacy policy at anthropic.com/privacy

Clerk: Account authentication. Email and name are stored by Clerk per their privacy policy at clerk.com/privacy

Stripe: Payment processing. Payment information is handled by Stripe per stripe.com/privacy
